Used to do a lot of carp fishing in the early 70's in the old fashioned way with Mk IV Rod, par-boiled potato bait and waiting 7 days for a bite. Then it got ultra competitive with the high-protein brigade who caught a lot more fish but at the expense of enjoying the day out. Haven't fished since.

I used to do a lot of deep wreck fishing every Sunday off the North East / Scottish coast for large cod and ling, (biggest cod caught = 27Ibs biggest ling caught = 42Ibs) but then the salvager's moved in over the wrecks and it all died off  been out on the boat in some pretty nasty weather too

Now I'm content with buying from the fish mongers

Coarse fishing was one of my main hobbies in my teens and 20's. Sold all my gear when I was skint and never really got back into it. But do join a couple of friends now and again for a bit of Carp fishing on the Cement ponds in Swanscombe, Flatty fishing in Gravesend, Mackerel fishing off Dover pier and a bit of sea fishing from a boat out of Newhaven. Did used to really enjoy it (still do) but other things (Family, cycling & footy) take up most of my free time these days.

I used to fish a lot when I was a lad and have recently been thinking of doing a fly fishing course so I can have a bash at trout.
Give it a go. I went on a one-day fly fishing course (need to get the knack of casting). Really enjoyed it.

I'll probably do it next summer and treat myself to two or three days in one of those really posh fly fishing schools in somewhere like Wiltshire. I've got this idea that because the Danube flows 50 yds in front of where I live, I can put on a pair of waders, catch a decent trout and have it in the pan within 3 minutes of it having taken the fly.
