As above, my other half bought me a new laptop a few weeks back, it came with windows 8 on it and i have tried to get on with it, but i am reaching the end of my tether, if i don't get it sorted it's going to get launched, and i will get my old one fixed, the problem being i cannot stop the pop ups, they are driving me crazy, have tried all i know they go away for a couple of days then they are back again. i never had this problem with Vista. HELP.

My wife has A Windows 8 laptop.
I hate working on it. She seems fine with it, though did take her a bit of time to get used to the change from XP.

Go and update to 8.1 and you can tell windows to boot to the traditional desktop. The update puts a start type button on the lower left, but you right mouse click to get to the program's menus.

It just takes getting used to.

I got it working ok on the wife's laptop, burnings bloody annoying and un-intuitive system. In terms of then use interface its too big a leap in one go to people who are used to the incremental changes from xp to Vista to 7.

I have a Windows 8.1 laptop laying disused in a drawer. I returned to my old Windows 7 laptop with a broken left mouse button because it's easier to use. I did try to get along with Windows 8, but my patience ran out, especially with the touch pad, even when I've disabled all multi-touch functions like 'zoom' it keeps acting on inadvertently fingered gestures in an unpredictable and angry-making way.

What sort of pop ups are you getting. Not getting any here ?
I think i found the program causing them, have just uninstalled it and seems to be pop up free at the moment, fingers crossed, it's taken all morning to sort out, i am on holiday so should be out on the bike.^_^

I sometimes get lost. Work uses XP, my home computers use 7, and my laptop runs 8.1. Personally I prefer 7, I'm getting on alright with 8.1 since I've managed to get it to behave similarly to 7.
