I've just brought one of those little backpacks with a 2 litre hydration pack. As it will more than double the capacity of my water bottles, I thought it would be useful for taking on long rides in addition to my water bottles, as then there is no need to factor in refilling my water bottles. I may look a bit of a mug though....

In the days before I used bottle cages, I once cycled 50 miles with a backpack on my shoulders containing a heavy D-lock and two full water bottles. Nothing else can be as bad as that.

Cafe, pub, shop...don't like having anything on or near my back if I can avoid. My cycles involve plenty of stops and not in the sticks

I also hate rides out in the sticks, but I when I do solo riding I don't like bringing a lock to lock my bike up outside any cafes.

My clubmates will be laughing out the other side of their faces when they are begging me for some of my spare 2 litres of water when they all run out of water on a long ride

That's true!

I used to stick an ice pack between the bladder and my back inside my camelback, stops yer back and the water getting warm.
