Forty years ago, I took a local Afghan bus, eastwards from Jalalabad to the foot of the Khyber Pass. Opening the tiny window to get a breeze was like sticking your face into a 3kW fan convector.
BTW, has anybody tried working in a loft under a slated roof on a hot British day? Saunas don't even begin to compare.

I have still to find an excuse to try it, but now, I think I will anyway just for the heck of it!
Holiday, I assume? Where you go after that? Sounds cool (no pun intended).
At the time, the Kingdom of Nepal had entirely legal government-licenced hash shops. I was drawn like a moth to a flame across Pakistan and Northern India, the usual well-trod path of young people in search of Fun, Travel, and Adventure. I left home with £200, and came back with £80, five months later. Overland travel was cheap in 1973 if you could not afford air-conditioning. It was also pretty fast. I think I made the trip back, sick as a dog, from Delhi to Istanbul, without a single night in a bed, on local buses in about twelve days. Strange days.

Yeah, but it's a dry heat...a friend is working in Durham, North Carolina. I ran the humidex calculation for her 2-3 days ago and worked out she probably should avoid breathing for the day to avoid heat exhaustion...

We got lucky, well kind of, a cold front moved in and cooled things down. There were some rough storms that it brought in with it though. It was the first day this year I noticed the heat very much. I do try to avoid riding mid day in the summer.

I used to live in Greece and over 45 deg they used to issue warnings to stay indoors !!!! i used to soak a sheet, put in fridge then bed time just put sheet over
I want to go back !!!!

Yes I used to live in Cyprus as a child. Could never understand why everyone went indoors when it was warm. I loved the heat. My first impression of the UK is of mud, rain and cold feet.

A few years ago I did a 10,000 mile trek around Australia. Coming through the Kimberley, Pilbara and across the Great Sandy Desert there were shade temperatures well over 50C - what it was in the direct sun, God only knows. I was carrying 23 litres of water on the bike and having to ration it very closely. Deeply unpleasant.

Moving from the Highlands down to Kent was bad enough for me... Anything over 20C and I suffer...... Actually anything over 20F....

Went to Crete with @Rickshaw Phil about 10 years ago and we headed down to Myrtos on the south of the island to visit a nice little beach and the temperature hit 43C on the thermometer which was the hottest I've ever been in. It was almost a waste of time putting suncream on, as the sweat would mean it all dripped off in about 1/2 an hour!

Here in Thailand (Bangkok) it averages in the low - mid 30's year round (24hours/day) so suppose its always hot. We got some 40-45C in the hot season this year. 30km feels like 50 km in that weather.

We headed through Arizona in October last year. Pretty hot, but kinda ok in the car with air con! Spent some time in Williams which was hot but ok, and the Grand Cyn was very hot. I mooched along the top which was more than enough, but Mr Hop did the down to the bottom and back up again thing in a silly time despite all the signs effectively saying ' death to all who enter here' :bravo: He was pretty knackered though afterwards
