Last winter there was nowt but a dusting of snow, but they had some burning Muppet on a bridge over the M62 advising everyone not to leave their homes or they'd die a horrible snowy death.

A few years ago I bought an almost unused set of Schwalbe Winters of Ebay for peanuts (in the summer, I was the only bidder 
) and put them on a rusty old mountain bike that someone was dumping. The bike is still sitting in the garage. We have had really mild winters ever since. I am still waiting for a chance to play with it in earnest.
