When I was approx 14 (maybe 1960ish) our house was demolished as part of the new Mersey tunnel**.....also known as the Wallasey tunnel.
I know that 8 people died during the construction.
I am trying to find the names of those 8 people.
Been googling it. Can find lots of references but nothing specific.
** not to be confused with the original "Birkenhead" tunnel.

Liverpool Echo article said:
Eight men died during the construction of the Wallasey (Kingsway) tunnel. Commemorative plaques listing their names were placed at the tunnel entrances in both Liverpool and Wirral in 1997. The men were Bernard Denness, Charlie Keggin, Ronald Carry, Leonard Mills, Jerald Randles, from Wallasey and Danny Sweeney, who also lived in Wirral. A Hungarian miner, and John Lathom, from South Shields, also died.
Article HERE.

(I just searched for "who died building Mersey tunnel")

Thanks.
Have seen that. Fascinating.
But no reference to the 8 who died in the Wallasey tunnel.
Did you read the article all the way through? The last paragraph gives the names of the 8 who died constructing the Wallasey tunnel.

Oh....sorry....I missed that. Will read again.
Thanks
It also says "Commemorative plaques listing their names were placed at the tunnel entrances in both Liverpool and Wirral in 1997", so if you are so inclined, you could probably arrange to go and see them..!

There's this plaque on the ventilation building on the prom

My grandad was one of the 8 men. Leonard mills. He was 47 I obviously wasn’t born to meet him. But my dad deeply misses him

Interesting that there are 9, not 8, names on the plaque, including that of the anonymous Hungarian miner who wasn't identified in the Liverpool Echo article, plus a Francis Adderley whom the LE didn't mention at all.
