Your Map link didn't work for me, but an hour north of Dijon sounds like the area we were, which was nicer than south of Beaune, where it is a bit monotonous with the flatter terrain and big vineyards.
Love Beaune itself, though, and we loved Saulieu too, based there for a week and found some great rides out from there.

oh right, thats odd. If you google map, or similar, for "Écorsaint", then that is where we are. Yes It looks a bit more hillier which is good. Sounds like the whole of France is designed for cycling  Everyone seems to love it

Think it's my gadget, map still doing its own thing!
Totally agree about France, think the lower population density = much quieter roads.

we used to go around the Loire a lot, but it can be a bit rainy so drifted further south. For the last gazillion years we've based ourselves near mont ventoux, always super weather in summer, and just endless varieties of stunning rides, from genteel / flat to the Geant itself. Unbeatable! Getting all excited for this year now.

Oo never cycled up it, although it is on my English Channel to the Med' route. We saw Le Tour a few miles away from the start of the climb last year as we stayed in Roussillon, and have to agree, it is most amazing countryside to cycle around, although the road surface was not as good as it was further South in the hills above St Trop'.

Not been to the Loire, and that too is on my route for 2016. I hear/looks amazing with all the chateaus. But you say the weather can be a bit wet? Yep quieter roads, and more nice lanes.

When your that way again, check out

Loire is quite a lot further north, and we used to camp, so really noticed it a couple of summers we had very British weather!

In Provence we usually base ourselves in a village nor Vaisson la Romaine, which is a lovely town in its own right, but this year we are going to go SE of ventoux, nr Sault, to explore more of the hilly region on that side.

I've done mont V from two sides, we were on it when wiggo went in the tour a couple of years before he won. Was that when you were there?
I think the Malucene side is too hard for me.

What is an awesome route is to go all round it, about 70 miles including a delightful descent down the gorge de la nesque and some lovely undulating terrain. Getting so excited about this now. Not long to go.

Totally irrelevant to your thread title, of course! Let us know how you get on and what you find to rave about.

Ah I think we popped in to Vaisson la Romaine after Le Tour, we went last year when Froome won.

just googled Sault, yep it looks like it is just up from where we were. Think I got as far North to Murs on my bike adventures from our base camp.

From what I have been told, could be wrong, that Ventoux isn't too bad, in that if you get into a rhythm then your kinda ok? Not going to race up it like in Le Tour. If people can do it on a Boris Bike, then hey! how did you find it?

lol good to chat on here, i find this part of the forum much better than other parts. People seem to talk and be interested in sharing details and help. Not off till August though. - likewise
