I said he should stay away from her, or the office as I dont want it, but more importantly dont want my kids getting it.

According to the doc who came to see my friend's husband last night, there is no point trying to avoid all contact as it is already in the air. They only advise those with symptoms to keep indoors, not others living with them.

I don't particularly want it myself but I'm not going to stop her working - particularly as there is no sick pay. It's ok for those who get paid, not so easy for those who do not.

No one I know yet... but I'm assuming that I will get it when it hits the school population here. So the first symptoms would be snuffles?

it's in the Kid's school, and at the Babe's place of work. So I'm sitting here with my head in a plastic bag inhaling bleach and Vic, typing with rubber gloves on.

Teenagers are having 'swine flu parties', which are like chickenpox parties, but with booze. Is this a clever idea?

It's only a mild form of flu, just that it's not around in the normal 'season', althogh it may just pick up abit by the autumn.

So what happens if you get the flu - treat as normal - i.e. paracetemol etc, or do you bother in going to the docs - I wouldn't normally - just a few days off the bike, and go into work as normal ?

No sign in my neck of the woods. I'm in two minds about this. About whether I want my kids to have it. I don't want to get to my August hols and find they turn me away at the gate to the plane because one of them is sniffly. How are they testing for this, if at all, at the airports?

You are supposed to stay off work for at least 7 days according to the nhs website, so you might have to contact your doctor for a sicknote. However, you are not supposed to go to the surgery, but send a flu friend to collect a letter for you to pick up anti-virals from a centralised collection point if necessary.

Only read this yesterday as it appears to have hit preston now, and there was an article with links in the paper...

I don't know anyone who's got it but finally got round to registering at my local doctors. Big sign on the door telling you not to come in if you've got it and everyone has to "sanitise" their hands using the provided pump bottle.
