bread knife?

Despite being accused of being a hoarder I can sometimes spot redundancy in some possessions.

There's four bread knives in our kitchen despite the fact they we rarely have a need for one. Some of them are survivors from knife sets that have not been up to scratch and one was 'inherited'.

I asked if I could dispose of of the surplus stock and got a resounding 'No. You never know when we'll need them.

Short of binding them together in parallel with suitable spacers to produce three slices of bread simultaneously I can't image any alternative scenarios when four bread knives can be useful.

Perhaps fellow CCers you know better?

I reckon you should do this and post photos of the resulting bread slices. I would!

I currently have six bikes and two trikes in the house, would that count for redundancy? I also have about 20+ pairs of boots.

Pervert!

If you are attacked in your house by a crazed psycho killer. 'Happens to me all the time you know, *sniff*.

Perhaps I should just move out, but I kind of like the excitement and unpredicability of it all.

I'd like to see that too!

Spacers at each end with lots of finely spaced slots could allow the knives to be postitioned for different thicknesses of slice, even within one cut!

We cleared out the 'knife drawer', which contains all manner of kitchen usefulness, just before Christmas. Out went five old bread knives, amongst other things, including two that were left behind in the previous kitchen by the previous owners. No idea why I thought it was a good idea to keep them.

So that means you had six bread knives?

Respect!

I am in awe!
I put it down to SWMBO who married beneath her, for love. She has a 'posh' habit. She sometimes butters her rare slice of bread with the end of the bread knife, a practice I've only ever seen repeated by an Earl, and is above washing anything up! The latter deficiency tragically passed on to our children...

I grew up helping my Mum in her 'ethnic' grocery shop slicing round Greek breads. The bread was previously always sold in the round and we began slicing them at the begining of the 70s and it was popular. So everyday Mum would slice dozens of loaves by hand and I would eventually join her in the task. We still have the same slim bladed bread knife used then though have complimented it with more modern ones.

A late friend of mine had a breadknife with a name - it was called "The Wit of Alice". Alice being a friend of his with a very sharp wit.

But then I also have a photo of him in the back of his converted van (well, it had a mattress and some shelves in the back) slicing a loaf with a saw...

I own four hacksaws. When I want one at home, they are all at work. When I want one at work, they are all at home.

I think they tend to cluster......elsewhere. By the end of the year, my herd will probably be up to six.
