One of my grandchildren is fortunate enough to have a good voice and some acting ability. Had several lead parts in musicals for the amature drama company she is in.
Ready to take the next step and get an agent/agency but choosing the right/best one is not as easy as it seems.
Some will take virtually anyone and charge 15% of any earnings.
The one that seems best is choosy who they take on but charge 30% which seems excessive.
I realise that 15% is useless if they DONT get you the parts whereas 30% could be OK if they DO get you the parts.
I'm just wondering if anyone else has experience in this.

What your grandchild needs is an agent to negotiate the best deal for her with agents ^_^

I run a theatre company. My experience is that most agents are useless, both to me and to their clients. I can't stand them. There are exceptions, but they are presumably the ones who can afford to be choosy. Most of the best performers we have employed have got the job without any assistance from their agents, but it doesn't stop them taking a fat cut of their not-very-lavish wage. It sort of depends on what kind of work she is looking for, as an agent will be more or less obligatory for mainstream/commercial work.
