Morning all,

After some help if anyone has local knowledge of Leeds. We are travelling up for a show tomorrow night at the arena but will be tight on time. Last time we went to the arena we followed the sat nav direction but got well and truly stuck a few hundred yards away whilst trying to get into the Merrion Centre car park opposite. Travelling down Lovell road with the arena on your right.

So the question is where would you park and which direction would you travel in from if you knew the area would be busy?

I live locally and we always park at the Brewery Wharf Car Park and walk up to the Arena

It's a 15/20 minute walk but
  • it's well away from the arena and close to the motorway so you'll not get stuck in traffic
  • there's loads of spaces and it won't be busy so you get parked up quickly and easily so...
  • the timing is very predictable
  • you'll walk past all those trying to get to the Merrion Centre car parks
  • it's a pleasant stroll back to the car afterwards with plenty of good pubs for that late night snifter

Leeds is a 'mare for being able to see where you want to be and realising that means you've gone wrong.

If you're tight on time park where @kynikos says and get an uber or a taxi to take you as close as possible.

Being tight, I like free... I generally head for Hyde Place/Terrace and park for 'nowt there. About a 15 minute brisk walk to the arena when we last did it, but you won't be wasting time queueing to get in car parks and queueing to get out afterwards...

haha. Doubt the 5 year olds or the missus will like that idea.

The Brewery Wharf is a little far for their legs but it might be quick than getting caught in the traffic and missing the show.

That's not a bad shout and a little less distance to walk.

How easy would the Templar and Edward street car parks be to accsess? Would I still get caught in the same trafic as most of Leeds looks like one way streets.

I don't know, but in my experience, Leeds is frankly bloody awful to drive round. I prefer to deposit the rolling iron on the perifery and walk, but I tend to do that anyway, not just Leeds.

Oh wait, it's Leeds we're talking about and you will still be going round in the same loop five years later.

I've only been to Leeds a handfull of times but I remember once getting caught up in a one way system and going all over the place. Normally I would wing it but the kids will go nuts if they don't get to see the Dinosours on time.

Where are you driving in from?

To be honest, the Merrion Centre car park is absolutely the last place I'd park if I was going to the Arena.

I'll be driving from Sheffield. We had no idea where we were going last time so (like the whole arena seemed to be doing) we opted for the car park next door. I think we spent an hour and a half in a queue that was no more than a few hundred yards long.
