Hi, I commute to work through Drayton just north of Portsmouth. I am looking at using the track that runs along the hilsea lines adjacent to the M27. Does anyone here use this route or have experience with it?

Many Thanks,
Monk

Hi Monk, if you mean the track immediately north of Portscreek, I used to cycle along it when I did off road biking. Heading east, the track crosses to the south of the creek near the railway bridge then the route is along the grass/earth bank to the Eastern Road, so not suitable for a road bike.

Thanks for the info, I've looked at the tide times and it should be low tide at 6am tomorrow on my way to work. I'm going from Fareham to havant so I'll give the track adjacent the m27 from hilsea to eastern road. I'm on a cyclocross so hopefully that'll suffice.

Don't know if you already found it but once you're past Eastern Road there's a good track starts in the entrance to the Farlington Marshes car park that takes you to somewhere close to where the A3M west joins the A27. I'm a bit vague on where your route goes then but I think you can get through to Xyratex, the old IBM factory.

Tide times?? I wasn't suggesting you cycle across the creek!

Found it the other day. High tide though so couldnt get under the railway bridge. However I used the path on the south side and made it ok. The cyclepath past tge eastern road was great. But once I got home I realised it was a mile more than the road route and added a lot of time to my commute

Looks like ill carry on using the roads through Drayton/Cosham

I suppose you use the A27 past Port Solent, Tesco etc. Did you see the rant in the letters page of The News, someone equating the fact that Portsmouth has the highest number of cyclist deaths outside London, with the cyclists on the A27 'with expensive bikes and expensive clothes' weaving in and out of traffic and not using the thoughtfully provided cycle path?

Yeah I cycle from havant to park gate on the old A27 through cosham/portchester/port solent/Fareham. The only cycle path I use is the bit by cams hall lights. But even then I find it annoying. Cycle paths here seem to mean I have to halve my average speed and stop at every junction to cross it.

I'll go look on the news now, always like to laugh at some people's silly comments.
