My son (nearly 13) has joined a youth boxing club, it's one of those free ones run by volunteers.
He absolutely loves it. It's mostly fitness and circuits, with a bit of technique and shadow boxing.

My question is, on the first session he had to stop because he felt sick. On the third session he was actually sick (and so was another lad).

Is this normal? He is no stranger to exercise, he's built like an olympic gymnast and excels at football, Rugby and Athletics at school. I'm a bit worried that if he's feeling/being sick each time, he is doing too much

Could just be a bit too intensive after food. Try persuading him not to eat before going, maybe a little fruit to keep him going.

I recall one notorious incident at school when the PE teachers decided to force an entire class to do bleep tests first period after lunch.

I boxed in the Army - against my wishes, I might add - but know naff all about yoof boxing.

It's possible to exercise to the extent you'll puke, and I have seen that many times, mostly in the army again. From my own experiences of hoxing training and from watching Daughter #1 train (she does white collar boxing) the training is very intense and it may simply be too much for your young laddos constitution at the moment.

Nevertheless, if in doubt get him checked out.

Probably preaching to the converted, but after attending a fitness day last weekend; one subject being about insomnia, I've switched to no more YouTubing when I go to beddy, reading a real book instead and now drinking Rooibos tea rather than my customary caffeine loaded brew. Still two teabags in a large mug, but less condensed milk and by jove the both appear to be doing the trick - !
I'm not actually insomniac, but my brain cell has previously buzzed with all sorts of nonsense clutter when I turn the light out but so far, all is good - ! :okay:

Yes he's unfit for the rigors of boxing training, that's all. Give a few more weeks and he will get there.

I coach U14 rugby and a couple of lads do boxing too.
They tell me the fitness work at boxing is so intense that they are often sick, but never sick at rugby.
Boxing fitness is just on another level.

That's encouraging thanks. Hopefully something he'll get used to. They've dropped it down to one evening a week over the summer

Boxing is a high cardio workout, as long as he's left enough time between eating and phys and there is no underlying health issues.....he'll get up to speed soon enough. He could just be putting that much effort in he's over done it, kudos kiddo.
I've seen it happen while in the Army and done it once or twice myself....luckily I didn't pay for the meal so it wasn't a waste:laugh:^_^
