Ulverston (South Cumbria it is now) to N Yorks and back on Whitsun bank holiday weekend 1949, on fixed wheel, and smiling over it. She borrowed my pa’s bike (not her own Phillips which needed a repair to the bottom bracket as I can work out from her diary now I know the occasion*) and went with friends as pa would be working, hence the seat post being right down in the frame. Any modern fixie riders up for the challenge?
