Anyone taken the Christmas tree down yet?

Nope. 12th night at the earliest. We can never agree when that is tho!

I would say 12 night after Christmas day...so on the 6th. That's the way we always did in the family household

All decorations gone one now, tree, wreath, cards the lot and the paper chains ended up on on the fire almost tidy now

Which is why I am beginning to regret this:

Thats a tidy job that is. Thats coming from someone who didn't even put up his cards or his decoration.

I'd prefer a plastic tree, but, like growing a beard, it would mean instant divorce.

We have a nordman spruce, which is a bit of a compromise - the needles stay on much longer but it doesn't have much of that lovely Christmas tree smell.

Yes that would be the same in my household but with me initiating the divorce proceedings on grounds of unreasonable behavour. In fact its one of this house's Christmas traditions is making fun of his pained expression as he goes to hunt down a tree. (The things he does in the name of love!!!)

This year he managed to buy a 6 ft tree that is about 8 ft long!!! Several inches are bent against the ceiling but I found it so funny that we've kept it. Still don't know how he couldn't work out that as it was several feet taller than him that it wouldn't fit.

And it won't come down until the evening of the 5th... (I'm never sure when the 12th night is either).

We always wait until New Year's Day then everything Christmassy goes away - tree, lights, decorations, tableware - the lot. Seems appropriate to put it all back in the loft at that point. New year - new look to the place. I dig out bits of music that I bought in the January sales in years gone by and stick that on too!

Christmas decorations should go up Christmas Eve and come down on the 6th of Jan - do it properly or don't bother.

When our kids were little, it always seemed wrong to be sending them back to school while the Christmas tree etc was still up. That's why we settled on 1st Jan - that and the fact I like seeing the place tidy again.

Anyway, talking of timing, Easter eggs will be in the shops soon...

Live tree, third or fourth year we've used it now, up on Christmas Eve, down on 6th January, no silly lights or anything, just lots of glass baubles, and when Leo is a bit older in a year or two, we'll put the candles back on it again, cos they're lovely.

I don't see this as a didactic thing - there may be an established custom associated with the timing of putting decorations up and taking them down, but if people want to do it slightly differently, I can't see a problem. Where's the harm?

Who says I am not doing it properly ? I am my own person and will take it down when I like and not when told to do by the christmas tree police
