I cycled a bit in Syria and Lebanon a few years ago, maybe 2 or 3, and I loved the place. At no time did I feel threatened or in danger. I was going to go to Tripoli one morning but a couple of bombs had gone off, so I just went somewhere else that day. But here’s the problem, there’s a range of mountains that run the length of the country and as I recall they’re about 2000m. There is a coast road but it is very busy, so your either dodging the traffic or your climbing mountains. I was coming from Damascus, I came down in to the Bekaa valley, stayed in Zahle, went up to Baalbek and then cycled over the mountain and down into Beirut. I had about 3 or 4 days in Beirut and used the bus to get to places like Byblos and Sidon. I wouldn’t say don’t do it, just make sure you know what your letting yourself in for.
Have a great trip…..
