Car is a 65 plate Astra petrol auto.
Twice in the last week I have gone to start it only to find absolutely nothing happens ie as though the battery is dead but on the central/control panel, in big orange letters it says ATTEMPTED THEFT.
Last week I got out, locked then unlocked the car and all was fine. Today I just took the key out, tried again and it was fine.
I didnt get an instruction booklet with the car so I can't check it there.
Thanks.

? sounds like maybe there is an immobiliser on it, but it isn't always getting the signal that the car has been legitimately unlocked. although a standard astra is an unlikely choice to put an immobiliser on?

Weak battery in the key fob?… perhaps the signal between it and the car is weak enough that it isn’t picking it up reliably and thinks someone is trying to start it without that piece of security.

my old Ford used to do weird things when the fob battery was weak. Like give me a low system voltage warning.

or… wait till dawn on a Tuesday and wave a dead cat over the intake manifold.

Can be battery issues, or difficult signal with the transponder. Couldn't get in my VX last week. Fob battery went flat. I think keyless entry adds a extra level of battery usage in key fobs - must remember to change earlier.

Get that fob battery changed.

Almost certainly not got one. It was nearly new when I got it and that was never mentioned.

Battery is only one moth old.

I just read that it can be caused by unexpected motion inside the car after it is loked

so it could be that moth flying around!!!

(sorry)

but - to be serious - it says motion detected which could be a flap of something - possibly something reacting to the sun now that it has made an appearance
or it can - apparently - be caused by a faulty door catch - again the motion detectors seeing it move a fraction

I've has a 'bug' caught in my car previously that's set the alarm off a few times in an evening. Opened all the doors, switched the lights off and made sure the security lights on the house were on so little bug preferred to go to see them. Pain in the bum when that happens.

Don't assume its automatically OK just because it's new.

And never use 'cheap' batteries ! I was surprised when the van didn't let me in. It had given one indication the week earlier in that it didn't lock to me touching the door handle, then stopped completely. I'm going to keep a spare battery in the van (still has one key 'hole').
