I would think one of the major aims of both Shimano and Campagnolo during R&D of electronic systems was to ensure they were fully weatherproofed. Unless experience proves otherwise it wouldn't be something that worried me as I've ridden many wet weather miles on motorcycles packed with fairly exposed electrical systems and they never missed a beat.

I remember that the earlier electronic gear systems (Mavic?) used to pack up in the rain!
