Anyone want a Chieftain Mark V?

There used to be a couple up at Parkwood 4x4 site (otherwise known as Tong Woods), between Morley & Bradford
My father-in-law was an instructor on them, when he was stationed in Germany
Of course, then there was the sound of that glorious Rolls-Royce B series engine:wub:

A.L.E use a few of these as ballasted tractor units, alongside the UNIPOWERs, & their own 8x8 designs

Good, but nowhere near as impressive as the old Scammell Constructors

I definitely prefer the bigger (UK designed/built) ESARCO

I have just had a measure up, and neither the tank nor the Scud launcher will fit on my driveway, so I am going to have to say "no thanks" to them. I am not sure that I am too happy about the notion that the tank is being sold with a live gun. If Mavis at number 43 buys it, she could have somebody's eye out with that.....

And the Black Hawk wont fit either, so it's another "no" from me.

Who cares? What are the police going to do? Stop you with a stinger? Put a clamp on the tracks? Try and pull you over on your way to the shops because the ANPR has flagged up your lack of VED payment?
Anyway, maybe its tax exempt as a classic vehicle. Maybe.....
You'd be suprised.

Local parking enforcement(newly formed at the time) did try clamping one. They rang the local recruiting office to tell them to come and remove it, or they'd tow it away.

Shotgun liscence will cover the gun.

Only if it's smoothbore. Not sure if the Chieftain's was rifled.

An acquaintance did have a cannon under a shotgun licence as it was smoothbore and over 23" (or whatever it is). It weighed about 3 tonnes.

It depends. It used to be that the answer was generally considered to be 'no' but DVLA seems to be interpreting the rules slightly less generously these days.

Apparently the insurance is quite cheap as well.
I was merely enquiring in case any nobber shouted at me to get off the road as i don't pay road tax

Then just run over the nobber.....
:okay::okay:. Thanks i just needed that confirming before purchasing.^_^

That's all the owner of the one pictured was required to have.

An old friend of mine (old, as in I've known him a long time - same age as me) was seriously considering a Thorneycroft Antar at one point
Until the measuring started.........
He had space in his yard, but would have to;
- knock one of his garages down, that's at the other side of his access
- get BT to move a telephone pole, that was adjacent to his gateway
- purchase a 7foot section of the garden, of the house, opposite
- then, check with the Council if the kerbs/footpaths could take the weight

So, he decided to stay with his vintage tractors, & Atkinson tractor units
Plus a very understanding wife

There's someone at Robin Hood, at the bottom of Sharp Lane (on the A61, between Leeds & Wakefield) has an Abbot, but his is a garden ornament, he used to have a Ferret Scout Car too, but not sure where that's gone:headshake:

Think that may be in Hebden Bridge, near the turning circle.
