If you see a large LDV van towing a trailer from Approved Driveways of Solihull get off the road, quickly.

One of them hit me with his trailer this morning in Earlswood, forcing me up on to the pavement at a 45 degree angle to the kerb, not easy on a drop bar bike doing about 20mph. He passed me very close with the van, then pulled in so the very large trailer was pushing against my right pannier, not nice.

I would report this to Solihull police but I gave up after being told for the twentieth time that i was working my way down the queue.

+1, thankfully your okay yeh? Could have been much worse... I had a situation like that years ago where I had to hop on to a pavement, thankfully it was on a mtb, now, I think my carbon parts would break... ;)

Yeah i'm ok, and the bike's fine. Scariest bit was that the van had gone and the trailer's obviously silent, all a bit strange.
Logged on SMIDSY and will try police again tonight, cheers for your concern all.

Other thing was it got me thinking about trailers, bit of googling confirmed that if you passed your driving test after 1997 you have no entitlement to pull a trailer, i bet half of the kids towing trailers behind builders vand aren't allowed to do so.

Bloody hell. Seems like a season for it again. Glad you're ok and hope you're not too shaken!

Trailers are a PITA I agree. You might be right about the entitlement to use them, but the other thing to bear in mind is that often drivers have no perception of how wide they are. My Father's mate uses one reguarly and even he comments on it now and again.

Damn Brummies.

Was it one of those trailers that pull those little diggers ?

Yep that's the one. Combined with the length of the van it becomes a pretty big vehicle.
Been mulling over the idea of getting one of those muvi cameras, but that's the first really bad incident in hundreds of miles this year, so suppose you've got to keep it in perspective.

As I've said to others - cameras aint just for the bad stuff. They can record the glorious stuff, too.

There was public consultation on proposals to permit wider trailers:sad: just last month, but I the consultation period is closed now.

Theres much to consider with trailers. Theres depth and height too, and brake lights... reg display. Often you see drivers using a trailer and they've over packed it or missed the reg off the back.

Yeah there is one that goes past me pulled by a L200 Warrior thing. Always on the DC though but through a single lane it would be hairy.
