Personally I would spend a little extra and get the MK2's. The coverage is far better. You need a clearance of about 4mm for them to fit. There is a video on the Crud website showing exactly how to fit them, they do need a little fettling when you fit. They are about the best guard you can get if you can't fit a proper guard on your bike. Far better than race blades imho.

Ha ha - I was just adding a link at the top of that page to try and flog a few bikes!

(Someone bought a bike costing nearly £3k through one of my links last year and I made a decent sum on that.)

I'd definitely recommend you to check the clearance. I've met so many people who complain about the Cruds not fitting when there just isn't room on their bikes to squeeze them in. They do need careful adjustment, and on mucky days they tend to clog if you don't rinse them out so ride through a few shallow puddles!

I'm still a fan though. I hated getting a wet back and a filthy bike on bad weather rides.

I have them fitted to my race bike. They are very good. They say that they fit sizes up to 25c but I have a 28c tyre on the front and it just rubs a little when cornering.
I got them purely for the weight and convenience of fitting. I have a steel bike and panniers which weigh almost the same as the bike (bike = 17kg, panniers + rack + other stuff = 12/13kg).

Amazon are the cheapest.

As long as I breathe, I attack.
I have them on my vituoso which is much of a muchness with the TDF .
The mk 2 are a lot better and i think the best bit of them is the extended piece that keeps the muck from the back wheel going all over the chainrings .
I run them with 23s but i reckon you could get away with 25s .

I was recommended the Race Blade equivalent and I wouldn't recommend the short ones like you are suggesting. Go for the long Mk 2's instead. With the short ones, the muck still comes off the rear tyres all over the seat tube, bottom bracket and chainrings while on the front when you go fast the water gets thrown up off the unshielded part of the tyre and then is blown back over you. I have now fitted proper mudguards and put the Race Blades in the bits bin.

I have the Mk2s on my Giant on 25mm tyres, they rub and squeak but nothing else will fit (except maybe the Giant ones) so I have to put up with it, may be better on 23mm tyres...and I got them free so can't really moan. But they are far from perfect, the stays are just too flimsy, but not much else out there for road bikes
