Well, yes is my immediate response.

It was on the news as I was painting the downstairs loo at 8am that NHS services would suffer due to the heat.

I’d class myself as a fairly intelligent and well balanced individual and I’ll seek some form of shade around 12-1400 hrs today, avoid alcohol and have a glass of water as I’m not used to this heat. Not that I mind it, it’s very nice.

But WTF is wrong with everyone else? If you’re old, Ill or ginger just stay out of it. In these climes we’re just not geared up for it but one or two sensible decisions can, according to the news, prevent the collapse of emergency services.

I’ll recycle this thread when an inch of snow falls in a few months.

I sense it’s espresso time…

Yes.

What was previously a "hot summers day" is now designated a "Class 1 murder Deathkill heat Slaughter alert", and still the idiots overdo it.

Seeing as those who would benefit the most from taking heed of such warnings are the ones least likely to do so, one wonders why they bother wasting resources on such warnings.

Suggesting I’m stupid is stupidity in itself, and without wanting to get into a pointless internet argument there are still things people can do to mitigate extremes.
Cool clothing, hydration, the cool place in the house etc etc etc…

I'd go as far to say that only stupid people would not have considered this before launching into some DM style rant.

Yeah, it's a pretty mean spirited start to a thread.

But what do I know, I'm tanked to the gills on cheap vodka and I'm about to chop down a triffid.

It’s certainly common sense to avoid the worst of the heat when you know you don’t cope well with it, yet we seem to need warnings for everything now.

Personally, I don’t enjoy the heat. It makes me really uncomfortable and lethargic and often sets off a headache. Therefore, I set off at 5am this morning for a spin, just wandered round to the supermarket for a couple of things just now and have actually put my shorts/vest pjs back on even although it’s not even 10am. I’m not going back out in it.

There are many things people can do to mitigate the effects of heat for sure.

But, there are many groups of people that may need reminding to take appropriate precautions - not everyone is superfit, in great health and with full mental capability.

Also, the warnings serve as a reminder to us all to think about family, friends, neighbours, etc, that may need a helping hand under extreme circumstances.

I am probably banned from riding today as it is too hot

but in some way riding gently is better than sitting around as you get a nice breeze in your face

because, as we all know, there is always a headwind

Oh - and I used to be a teacher - in a room with a large flat roof, windwos that had to have the blinds down all the time and anyway teh windows only opened a crack
and it was full of computers

I did have a fan - just the one

and - most of the time - 25 sweaty teenage kids

it could get rather warm in there - and smelly!
