A MAWIL?

Not being a sleek racing snake type anymore I have given up on the tight, clingy clothing, as I don't think my spare tyre over spaghetti legs is a good look.

I do still wear the shorts for the padding but wear another pair of normal jobbies over the top. How about yourself?

I wear Lycra shorts and a Lycra top in summer. In winter I wear those underneath various windblock tops and tights etc.

Definitely an OMIL, but the jerseys are definitely not a race-fit, and my shorts are loose mtb shorts in a lycra mix...and not when cycling to the shops or on errands, when I just wear my normal clothes. Other people are free to make their own choices; I just find stretch clothing easier on longer rides...although I draw the line at rubber gimp outfits.

It depends.

On the road bike: yes, Lycra all over (despite the paunch - I don’t care what anyone thinks)

On the gravel bike: bibshorts/tights yes, usually a loose fitting jersey or jacket.

On the MTB: padded undershorts, baggier shorts on top and baggier jerseys/jackets.

I have never fully understood if being a MAMIL also implies being out of shape? It usually seems to on most occasions, or people assume it does. What about the super fit racing types in their 40s/50s/60s, do they get classed as MAMILS?

I am all for inclusivity, I think any middle aged person of any size or shape who chooses to wear lycra should proudly assume the moniker. I shall officially get there myself in a couple of years!
