I'm normally awake at around 4.30am. Get up make a cup of tea and by 5.00am I'm out of the door and walking my dogs. Now it's dark at 5.00am this time of the year so I take this massive heavy Maglight with which you can see about a mile away. Get back around 5.30am make breakfast and sit down to eat it just as the pips go for 6.00am on Radio 4 and start of the Today programme.

Anyone start the day earlier than that?

Maybe not quite as early as you but I'm up at six every morning, even though I don't really need to be up until about 7.30 and generally take a short, brisk walk before breakfast. Best time of the day IMO.

I'm up at 5.30 every morning, not through choice though, it's to be at work for seven. Even when I'm on holiday (as I am right now) it takes a few days before I stop waking up so early.

Normally up by 5.30, ready to leave about 6.30 but do not leave until 7.15 due parental duties. Do not need to leave that early, work flexi-time, but find the traffic is still reasonably light and not many pedestrians around whch makes it a more enjoyable commute.

I'm so manly I don't even bother going to bed.
Sleep is for wimps although, having said that, my torch is puny.

I've never understood how I manage to wake up about 3 minutes before my alarm goes off at 06.00. If I'm awake earlier than that I get up anyway because lying awake in bed gives me a headache.

I reckon this is common, it's the same for me - both bits in fact.

You're the first person who I've ever heard of having the same problem. When I lie in bed awake I get a thumping headache and sort of dodgy migraine feeling that paracetamol or ibuprofen can't beat and stays with me all day. Somehow I've always believed it to be linked to blood vessels in the brain.

About twice a year I can stay in bed, last Saturday was a case in point as I was tired from hard rides on Monday and Friday and I dozed until about 10.00 without feeling ill at all.

NO, I get that as well. I need to get up as soon as I wake or have a headache all day.

I get up at 4.15am and am ready to leave for work by 4.45am,only every other week though, rotating shift pattern.
If I wasn't on early shift then I'd be getting up about 8.30-9.00am.

Wow! In 54 years of asking doctors and other folk I have never met or heard of anybody else with the same problem. Today, two others. Do we have a syndrome or an acronym for our little affliction? I'd like to be able to point Mrs Gti to the website because she has never quite believed me!
