Aren't "hipsters" on "fixies" cyclists too?

You'd have to put these people down as enthusiasts imo. It may be ill-advised and for the wrong reasons but some of them have gone to an awful lot of trouble and expense to bugger up nice old steel frames. That takes a certain amount dedication, someone lazy and un-interested wouldn't do it.

What surprised me on a visit to Hull was seeing some very nice fixies secured with the equivelent of an old bit of shoelace, lack of experience can show itself in more ways than one I think.

I had to look up "hipster" on Wikipedia and not sure I'm any wiser -
"Hipsters (also referred to as scenesters[1]) are a subculture of young, recently settled urban middle class adults and older teenagers with musical interests mainly in alternative rock that appeared in the 1990s".
and
"Hipsters are the friends who sneer when you cop to liking Coldplay"
or
In a Huffington Post article entitled "Who's a Hipster?," Julia Plevin argues that the "definition of 'hipster' remains opaque to anyone outside this self-proclaiming, highly-selective circle." She claims that the "whole point of hipsters is that they avoid labels and being labeled. However, they all dress the same and act the same and conform in their non-conformity" to an "iconic carefully created sloppy vintage look."

Clearly I am out of my depth here, but but but, there is one bit that says they are retro and I like some retro so am I a little bit hipster?

Here for rides.
I not only like retro, I actually am retro and am old enough to remember when the current retro stuff was brand new. The nice thing is now I can afford to buy it.

Yes. They get points for trying. They pay as much attention to their uniforms and kit as Guardsmen do. Shame so many of them can't actually ride their lovely bikes to any degree of competence.
