Arm Warmers vs Long Sleeved Baselayer?

Definitely could have done with the flexibility of arm warmers today but made the mistake of wearing a thin softshell; thought I'd be OK as I only had a summer base layer underneath but I was just too hot. I should have stuck with the arm warmers that I could have rolled up or down to get the right temperature

I use arm warmers when it starts off a bit nippy and warms up later into the ride. a ls base layer would be too much for this later on but being able to remove the arms easily allows for good body temperature control.
