Be careful. You will need plenty of smug-room for the day that you walk into a shop and buy a pair of trousers one size smaller than the last pair that you bought. And the day when you feel your legs and think "gosh, they're solid".

But smug away. You'll need it for the days when it is wet.

Feel even smugger (Is that a word?) When you see a driver deliberately turn into the curb so you can't filter but you anticipate and overtake on the outside.
Smugness becomes unbearable as you realise you are superior and you carry on filtering unable to contain a massive smile!

Been a very "low level" cyclist for a few weeks now but decided to try the commute to work, a journey of 6.5 miles. A very doable distance for a portly middle aged fellow such as I.

Second commute in this morning resulted in my being faced with a mile or so tail back of traffic between Fair Oak and my destination so I took the bold step of filtering on the outside. I found myself riding with a huge grin thinking "that would normally be me stuck in that lot." I was as smug as a smug bloke who was really smug.

Should I

a) Be ashamed of myself for my feeling of wanton superiority?

b) Be proud of my personal accomplishment and be as smug as damn well please?

very very B.

As you get more experienced you'll be able to plank on your bike and filter the queues looking as if you're doing the backstroke waving to the stuck drivers as you tootle serenely past.

umm, watch out for people turning either right, or into the traffic, or pulling wider to look along the queue, far too many drivers expect a cyclist there even less than they do on their inside

if you're a cyclist you must be smug about everything thing you can and can't be smug about! it's what pisses off car drivers
Cheers Ed

Just to add to the smugness, this morning some muppet couldn't possibly wait to get through a set of lights (wasn't going anywhere anyway) and ended up stuck in a yellow box (similar to above, only fed by 5 separate roads). Incessant tooting and shouting at the poor fool stuck in the middle ensued, while smug cyclist (me) comes along and simply cycles through the available space laughing in the drivers face.

Fools in their cars! muhawhahhaw.
