That's lovely. Not being one for planning myself... are you a convert now. I always intend to come back to take a better photo of certain subjects and never remember when the conditions are right!

That's a lovely shot... however, I'd (personally) have preferred it as a square crop and the tree slightly off centre to the left so the drifting clouds are 'pointing' towards it.

Cracking picture though - you've absolutely every right to be proud of it!

Cheers, everyone! Promise wasn't trying to big myself up, it's just it's been so long since I've done something I like.

Yes, indeed, might well be, now, or at least for landscapes. I think the thing is that the weather up here is so unpredictable it makes it hard to plan for anyway - and you don't want to spend an hour or two in the car or on the bike for a scene with total overcast 'grey sludge'.

Beautiful shot, you've had so many comments on it! I've not had one comment on any of my pics on flickr, maybe says something about the quality!

What's your flickr name?

really beautiful shot, Do you mind if I make a copy as it would make a good addition to our photo library at work.

really stunning

In answer to sharky, you can crop this however you like, but it takes real talent to capture the content first.

Do you do this professionally now or is it just a hobby (sorry, not checked your profile:blush:)

Stunning

I like the composure - the opposite shoreline is one third up and I think the tree looks better being in the center - with the hills sharp and the water and clouds blurred it really stands out.

Is that all that you did with the ND filter and the exposure? Not having any real experience of filters myself, is it that that gave the colour to it?

Really, really like it.

Nice. I'd have dropped the viewpoint by a tad to bring that fork in the tree into view and flatten the water out of it giving more space to the sky, then I would have done it landscape with the tree one third across the frame, probably to the right. I'd have taken about 20 shots then gradually eliminated them. So go on - how many did you take?

Lovey atmospheric shot though, well done. I'd like to do more time exposures of water.

Have you been up to Rannoch Moor and taken "that other tree" that so inspired Roger Dean who did the Yes album covers?
