did you go to school on your own?

did you go to the shops on your own?

were you first left alone (or in charge of younger sibs) in the house?

and...I know this is intrusive, but, if you wouldn't mind, would you tell us when you were born?

in my case it's 5, 6, 8 and 1954

Also aged 8ish was my first solo cycle and aged 8 I would happily cycle to the local park and spend all day Saturday playing football with about 25 other kids. Was never given a time to be home by either, just knew it had to be before dinner time.

School got to be about 6 or 7. Used to go with my 2 brothers.
Shops, can't really remember but was probs around the same age.
At about 10 years old, myself and my brothers were usually despatched to the local hardware store to pick up a gallon of paraffin for the heaters.
Left alone... once again, hard to remember but probrably round about 10 years old.

So...
6, 6, 10, 1966

Wasn't allowed off the end of the street on my little blue and white two wheeler 'til I was 7 and celebrated by riding to Castleford, via Methley and Whitwood, and back on my own...
Just checked Google Maps... it was 6 miles each way!

I was a bit late being left alone, my mum had a thing about what were known as "latch-key kids" so:

5,4 (the shop was nearer than school),13 and I was born in 1968.

We were latchkey kids.
Key on a bit of string on the back of the door.. put your hand through the letterbox to get key.
There was a lot of it about in the 70's.
I am suprised there wasn't more burglaries then.. but then again, maybe there was.

7, when we moved and school wasn't across a main road
difficult to answer - when we moved, we had a shop, so we *were* the shops. But I first went into town on my own around 10/11.
Wednesday afternoons (early closing) from around 12.

My Mum started to work when I was 7 and My Sister was ten, she was always going on about latch key kids, it really seemeed to upset her having ot go to work, having my own key rather than one dangling behind the letterbox was great. I remember clearly the freedom I felt!

I had a key on a long piece of elastic fixed inside my shorts' pocket with a big nappy pin!

No idea on 1st 3.

My memory is rubbish.

What I do know is that my daughter's numbers will be higher than mine.
