There's been a big solar thrusting thingy that's got the radio hams jolly excited.

Celestial event = guaranteed cloud.

Hopefully Sod's Law will kick in and prove me wrong this time. But i won't hold my breath. I'd love to see the Aurora and it would really make this year my best so far for eye-ball astronomy which has given me the Perseids (average in the UK, excellent under the dark Appalachian skies), Andromeda, as clear as anything at 5am in Appalachia and a total eclipse.

We have been warned that high end GNSS (GPS) may well not be at its best this weekend. So if you have an RTK survey to do this weekend folks, I would be tempted to put it off.

I once heard some one calling CQ Aurora on 2 meters, with the drift on the voice I thought it was a poltergeist! made me jump big style as it wasn't expected

Hmmph - poked my head out the door just now. Mebbe just worth ... an hour's ride to a pretty good "dark sky" corner not far from Leeds?

Some hope. P***ing with rain, and heavy cloud. There is ONE bleedin' break in the cloud ... with the moon shining full blast.

Ah well
