My central heating is on just to take the edge off, this is ridiculous, by the way, how hot is it in Moscow?

I'm tempted buy a log fire but it seems too early by a month at least. It's not actually cold here, just miserable!

Blimey, what's up with you all! I mentioned this subject in another thread today. I've still got my windows open 24/7 and don't anticipate using heating for at least another month. I've often got well into October before I feel the need and I'm up in Yorkshire where it is significantly cooler then Darn Sarf.

Oh, and I don't have central heating or double glazing either! I usually only use one small wall heater for the whole house, and I got through last winter mainly washing with cold water because my boiler packed up and I can't afford to get it repaired.

Wimps, the lot of you!  ;)

SAD coming along badly!

Oh, SAD - that's a different matter. Bugger, I'd forgotten about that! It'll soon be time to fire up the old lightbox...

You all are making me miss home. It's still bleedin hot here in Texas, high 90s for the rest of the week and it only drops to the mid 70s at night. We've gotta wait until October before we start to see high 70's during the day.

Just back from hols, where it was hot. Had coal fire the other evening, at the request of Mrs F and the little people. It WAS cold outside (and wet) but I don't feel it like they do. So they sat near fire with cardies etc on, while I lounged about in T shirt and shorts!

Cold? .. you bunch of southern wimps! It’s not even BBQ weather in Geordieland until it's at least -5 and that's only T-shirt and shorts weather.  It's positively a tropical heat wave at the moment   :sun:

A beach in a hot country over the winter months normally sorts my SAD out! :becool:
Chance'd be a fine thing. I must say, winter cycling holidays somewhere warm and sunny are high on my list of things to spend money on when I next have enough of it. That, and fixing my boiler of course - I don't actually like washing in cold water in the winter!

I thought the rumours I'd heard about Geordieland couldn't possibly be true but a couple of weekends up in Newcastle when it was cold and wet soon put me straight! Girls wearing skirts the length of belts and topless young men everywhere on a Friday night out!   ;)

Where do you live Siberia? Scotland? It's August, i.e.- the summer.

Central heating? You must be having a laugh! Seriously, in August?

I didn't put the central heating on until November last year but I'll admit I live in the South. I've found cavity wall insulation really is the dogs bollocks.

I'm married to the world's coldest woman so the woodburner has been lit about a dozen times in the evenings for the last two months. Even in warm sunny weather she will be wearing a scarf and a sweater and complaining about the cold. This morning it's 9 degrees but the CH hasn't come on because the kitchen door is left open all night so that heat from the Aga can warm the house. The Aga was switched off on sufferance for about 3 weeks in June, when temperatures in the kitchen were reaching 30 degrees, with the Aga and the huge south-west facing bifold doors. Some evenings I sit in T shirt and shorts sweating, thinking I ought to have a knotted hankie on my head and a cocktail with an umbrella in it, while she is curled up on the sofa shivering.

She is always cold because eats nothing, a main evening meal will be a bowl of soup and a roll or one very small baked spud and some cheese. On the rare occasions we go out for dinner and she eats a proper meal, she complains she is hot.
