My cycle comp has an option on there, (which i don't use) i can instruct it to disregard speeds below x amount ,, my way of thinking is that all your doing is kidding yourself because it does seem to be an easy way of upping your av speed.. I guess that most decent computers have the same option just wondered if anybody uses it ?

I don't use it, but my Garmin 705 has an auto pause function. In practice people will only use it below walking speed to cut out the stationary time at junctions - that which isn't ride time. Can't imagine why anybody would set it higher (unless they want to forget climbing some hill at 10km/h!).

Mine doesn't, but in traffic maybe it would be good? I wouldn't use my average commute speed to rate my real average speed anyway...

I think that using average speed on a commute where there are many lights and heavy traffic is not so good and doesn't really give a true picture. I'm lucky on my commute as there are no lights and very limited traffic so it does mean something.!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

This explains how on a cycling holiday the guy I routinely left behind, not by much he always rolled in to the stops after me, quoted me his moving average speed nearly 2mph higher than mine!

I use my cycle computer's figure for my moving average so a slow roll up to the lights waiting for them to change results in a lower moving average than blasting up to them and stopping.

TBH the only use I have for this figure anyway is to see how much slower I am today than last time I rode the route.

true.dat! why waist energy bombing it to the lights, stopping, starting and getting back up to speed, when you can roll it in and then pop it when you can.
