Hi, I'm a student at Strathclyde University and I'm currently writing a report about the design of bikes, specifically relating to bikes for the commuter market. I'm struggling to find statistics for the average age of a commuter that cycles to work and was wondering if you guys could help. If you had any useful links which would give a solid statistic that would be fantastic or even if you could give an estimation of the average age based on your experience that would be an amazing help.
Thank you in advance

In York most cyclist commuters are students. This might have something to do with York university's Unibikes scheme but it might be useful to have as something to refer to in that sense

I'm 38. I think the older you are the more likely you are to commute. I used to work 1/2 mile form home when I was in my teens, but took the car every day......I was an idiot. With age comes responsibility, and you're more likely to want to stay in shape, save money, save the Planet.

I think it will greatly depend on area. any uni town will no doubt have lots of students, no uni then maybe more people getting to work so slightly older.

you will probably need to look at a number of data sets and some how interpret them. there always seems to be things on how school kids get to school ... that could be one.
