60, commuting for 35 years with a five year gap some fifteen years ago. Promptly got diabetes , don't really know if it was linked to lack of regular exercise but I've been back on the true path ever since.

I cannot find a clear definition of the word commuter.
People used to simply 'go to work' on foot, bicycle or public transport, and the term commuting was reserved for people who worked in cities and lived a considerable distance from the workplace.
Now it seems everyone in employment is a commuter, apart from those whose place of work is also their residence.

I think the older you are the more likely you are to commute. ..... With age comes responsibility, and you're more likely to want to stay in shape, save money, save the Planet.

Hm... I would have assumed the younger people were keener to save the planet (in my experience anyway - parents are less environmentally conscious than me, and their parents less so than them), and that younger people would be more physically able to commute by bike.

However, looking around the office, I'd guess there would be more 40 year olds commuting by bike than those in their 20's.

Trina123 - Would love to get a copy of your final report when available.

41 just started commuting around 2 weeks ago to help rebuild my muscles following a major knee op. But have been cycling for a few months prior to this at weekends. However I have a feeling that my knee is not right as the consultant said it would feel normal in 3 months, and that was 3 months ago. And it does not, so I am going to go for another MRI scan and possibly the joint faces cleaned up. This is a major pain I was getting right into cycling. Still I can start again after another op if I need one that is.
