I'd be very grateful for any advice/guidance with ths problem. Every time I open an applicationI get an error message re dll file mentioned in the topic description above. (AVG\System32\AVGRSSTX.dll )

I found the issue on an AVG help forum
http://forums.avg.com/ww-en/avg-free-forum?sec=thread&act=show&id=131419
which suggested I uncheck the file in the autorun function of AVG... which would be fine the autorun function within the prog.

BTW deleting AVG 11 make no difference, the error message continues.

Thanks

TBH bobg, I jumped ship from AVG and went to Avast a while back because I kept having issues.

I had the very same idea Beanz, so I deleted AVG ready to load avast but the bloody error message continued...and the stupid Win 7 system wont find the file or I'd have deleted it!!!

I'd suggest you download ccleaner and run the registry cleaner on the off chance that it's due to references to a missing file. If that doesn't work then run regedit and search for all references to that file and remove them

If it really won't clear off, you could* try reinstalling AVG, then (trying each of the list below on a seperate clean install) uninstalling it using -

- Windows own uninstaller
- AVG's own uninstaller (if there is one - been so long I can't remember)
- CCleaner's uninstaller

*Caveat - always back up first!

Thanks for the advice chaps. I finally found the dll file that was causing the error message and deleted it, result.... no error messages. Just as a matter of interest I reinstaled a clean version of AVG again... error returned! Did the whole thing again, mopped up any remaining AVG files from where they were lurking and loaded AVAST... fine so far.

Once all the family have finished applying their customary scorched earth policy I'll spend some more time doing what all you chaps have suggested.

Enjoy what remains of Xmas

Bob
