A fruit which in Papua New Guinea is genrally given to pigs but in London sustains people.
I see what you did there. The noo.

I read the full report. I feel that it is quite a bad situation that the large growers are diverting the natural flow of rivers away from the people in the villages, who are now struggling a great deal. I hope intervention will help these people quite soon.

Here is my attempt at geminating an Avacado stone, started around March this year. It has took about 2 months.

The root appeared while in water. I then potted in compost.
The Green shoot only appeared under 10 days ago and is taking off-5cm in that time.

How long until you expect to reap a harvest? Does this grow a tree, or just one more avacado? Gardening is not my strong point

They are a 20m tropical tree, in the UK they will never grow large enough to flower and fruit and are a fun, short term foliage house plant. One caveat to that is that the Mexican form of Avocado is more frost tolerant (to minus 5, according to some sources) and may be possible is the right micro climate and soil in the far south of the UK - but Avo's on sale in uk shops are not Mexican type.

When growing from a seed, it is best to sprout several at a time - most send out a single shoot that need managing to produce bush growth, but some send out 2/3 shoots from the stone, they make much better shrubby house plants.

If it eventually gets too large to keep indoors it will have to live out in the garden. (Bit like some partners)

If the global warming continues you never know-it may survive & produce fruit one day in the future.

I will periodically update a photo of the progress to this thread:okay:
