Hello peeps,
Well, I'll start with my name.... Lee, bet you'd never guess that from my user name!
I came across this site while looking for answers to various questions, some good advice found so I thought I'd join in.
About me, bought a Pinnacle hybrid 2 years ago with the intention of improving my fitness for a forthcoming challenge (Three Peaks) but never really got into it so it sat in the garage for a good while. Every year a group of us take on a challenge of some sort, last year was canoeing the Great Glenn which was fantastic. This year's is cycling coast to coast, St. Bees, Cumbria to Robin Hood's bay (172 miles in 3 days) soooooo, I thought it best that I get on my bike! I started in January, loved it and have since bought a MTB (Pinnacle Iroko one, great bike) & a more recently a road bike (Btwin Triban 5, again, I like it!). I'm clocking up a few miles on the Triban now, when I get chance that is, started off doing 20 miles or so without too much fuss, now doing 40+ fairly comfortably, hills are still a major problem though
The really good thing is I'm now down to just below 13 stone, I've not been there for quite a while. I'm 45 and find losing & keeping weight off is very hard, pedalling is the answer it seems ^_^ I feel much better for it too. I'm not pulling up any trees with my times, etc. but I'm quite happy with my progress so far. C2C is going to be tough I know, I just need to take my time I think. I've got a nice 50 mile run planned for Sunday, looking forward to it.
I'm now looking for a bike for my wife, she seems quite keen to join in with all this fun I'm having.

We looked at Whitehaven - Sunderland route but the guys organising have made their own route up which takes in the Tanhill House, highest pub in England. That will be reached (hopefully) at the end of day 1, some 80 miles! To be honest, I'm dreading it. I'm looking forward to the last 3 miles or so into Robin Hood's bay though ^_^ Good luck with your ride.
I'll check for the jokes, kind of guessing where they lead

Good shape! I wish. I suppose years ago I did look after myself but I find it difficult nowadays to get motivated, hence the motorbike to work this morning instead of peddling, nice day here too today.
I reckon if I cut out the booze I'd do a lot better too

Thanks for the welcome guys.
Just been put on the MTB for a short blast, about 14 miles, mainly canal tow path (not sure what the rules are about that tbh) Having got used to the road bike it felt odd to say the least & me no like flat peddles any more, the difference is huge, especially on hills, although, not many were involved on this ride. I'll stick to taking it over to Cannock Chase which is only a 15 min drive away, there's a fantastic trail round there.
MTB now back on it's hanger in the garage, road bike out on Sunday hopefully.
Off down Decathlon tomorrow, see what they've got for wifey. It will make a nice change to actually do something together for a change.........well, maybe! We did walk Hadrian's wall last year together though, 6 whole days just the 2 of us, under canvas, no kids. Walking is / was more my thing, not done much lately
