After 12 months of limited cycling, I am back on to regular commuting to work. It will hurt, but will be worth it.

Looking forward to the night shift for a change.

only 6 mile. but when I do have other routes that I can extend the route with when I get back into it.

6 miles is a good start.
Make sure you ease your self back into it.
