Well yesterday was a good day, the first ride since my heart attack five weeks ago, it was only 5.5 miles but it certainly felt good to be back in the saddle, so fingers crossed the weather stays suitable for cycling so I can keep getting out. ^_^

Well done, glad to see you making a recovery. Keep it easy and stress free.

I know there's a huge difference, and also were all different, but my brother recently had 5 stents fitted. Thanks to a marvellous health service, this was done before any heart attack could take place. He is like a man possessed, and I can't keep up with him. I actually thought at one point, I can't waIt until I get my re-bore.

The heart rehabilitation nurses were very poor and only any real use to the nearly infirm, but as long as you follow the advice from the surgeon, you shouldn't have too many problems apart from trying to remember to take the myriad of tablets you'll inevitably have now to take. Good luck with the remainder of your rehabilitation.

Best wishes! Did the heart chap at the hospital say it was ok so soon after,or did you jump the gun like me?
The hospital & the rehab nurse who came to visit when I came home said that I should give it at least a month, but don't go doing any 30 milers, start off slow & take it easy, but go out & walk each day, increasing the distance a little each day, so thats what I did, the first walk was only 5 minutes, but I felt like I had run a marathon, so basically I've just pushed myself a bit further each day.

I didn't get a stent as the surgeon thought it could cause more problems, than it would cure, however I started the rehab today, and the team were very good, especially as there was such a variety of ages and abilities there, at least I now know I can push it a bit without causing myself further problems.

Yeah, I knew there would be very few the same. Good you're not lying down to it and have a plan, well done.

Take it steady. Good to see you enjoyed your time back in the saddle.
If you're back out again get wrapped up pal. It's getting a bit cold round our area now!❄️

Whoa, happy to hear you're recovering well.

I had a heart attack 10 years ago which resulted in a quadruple bypass, and I was really surprised how quickly I recovered - rehab physio was great, and I'll be forever grateful for the superb treatment I had at Liverpool's Broad Green hospital.

And that sharp reminder of my mortality has had a positive effect on me too in that it's rejuvenated my enthusiasm for life - I'm more optimistic about things and worry less about the relatively trivial stuff that bothers so many people, and I'm less cautious about just getting off my bum and doing things.

And though I've only been back to cycling for a short time, I've greatly improved my exercise and fitness too.

So, enjoy every minute of your renewed life, I say.

Alan
