Backpacking holiday with 11yo?

Is this a good idea? Thinking pyrenees to stand a chance of good weather. Anyone taken a kid that age backpacking when they've had no history of it? We've cyclist toured for a few years from 3 yo on the back of an adults bike with tent but nothing on foot.

Just looking for ideas really. I kind of like UK stuff but you've got to be lucky or go end of may or beginning of June for decent weather or low midge count in Scotland.

Then there's WiFi or data/ mobile connection issues.

Do it, build memories.

Yes, try northern Spain. Picos d'Europa. Though it snowed in May.

Czech Republic, go on the overnight bus through Europe to Prague and wander.

Just bumming around on local buses and so on is fun if you don't take it too seriously. Need to be a bit worldly wise.

This is based on experience. Extreme was 3 weeks with my 11 year old son to one of the "stans". That was over 20 years ago. Remains memorable.
