Was cycling with my eldest son today to get some ideas as to where we will watch the TdF stages on Saturday and Sunday. We were on our way back from Harrogate over to Otley when a light blue Mercedes slowed down next to us and KAPOW! a plastic bowl of someone's dinner was thrown with full force hitting my son riding just in front of me! He was initially shocked at the sudden violence of the unprovoked attack and covered in some milky liquid with bits of food.

The two miscreants declined our forthright offer to stop their car and discuss it further and drove off waving and laughing.

The two people in this world I'd most like to meet are the driver and the filth-flinger from that Merc today.

I know people will go, 'did you get the reg. no.' and 'did you think to take a picture on your camera' and the answer is, no to both; we're not sat behind keyboards with ample consideration time and were both so stunned at the sudden attack, we went in to cave-man mode and demanded satisfaction. We didn't get it.

Even without a registration etc, I'd still report it to the Police.
That's truly disgusting behaviour. I'm speechless.

Definitely report the incident. If you can recognise the car make, colour and time of the day it happened maybe they where caught on camera somewhere and may be traced. This is an act of violence and could have been made worse had you son fallen off the bike and something hit him.

That's an option. Unfortunately I didn't have my head-cam on and we wished we'd picked up the plastic bowl from the floor as evidence. But we do know the exact time and exactly where the incident took place from the GPS and as everyone says, if they get away with it, they'll get worse. Between us, we can provide a good description of the car, its year, its occupants and its location at the time.

Another thing you should consider is what was in that bowl in the first place, yet another reason these two yobs should hang.

I hope that one day in the not too distant future you're walking down the road and you happen upon a car that you think looks familiar, then wait around for a few minutes until the driver with an instantly recognisable face appears.

Hopefully by the time you've finished with him his face won't be recognisable to even his own mother.

On the other hand we can pray that they were laughing so much that they stuck it through a wall somewhere on a bend.

Thanks but no thanks. I think I'll pass.
The sad fact is, there are some people on this planet who seem to only have 2 brain cells. The numptys in that car seem to have only one and have to share it between them. It never ceases to amaze me just how unpleasant and stupid, and downright nasty some people can be. I hope this experience hasn't put your son off cycling. Thankfully, not everyone is like that. Take care.

There can't be that many light blue Mercedes about. Definitely worth reporting. Could well be familiar to the local police.

I really really hate spineless gutless self-gratification artists like this. My other half is a great believer in karma, me i think its superstitious nonsense. If I'm wrong, and at times like this, i really hope i am, then at some point in the not too distance future they will get their comeuppance. Makes my blood boil. Hope the lad is ok.
