After setting off again I saw blue lights ahead. Four Police 4x4s had cornered the Toyota in Lane four by Junction 17. Now that, I thought, was efficient.

Excellent work Night Train.

Good point today

Approaching RAB in Stockport, see a bus approaching from the right so slow down to give way and check out a girl on the pavement. Look back to see why bus hasn't cleared and driver is gesturing for me to go ahead. He either presumed I was a) reckless ;) had no brakes or c) was checking out the same girl he'd seen. Anyways he had slowed enough that my safety wasn't compromised and I proceeded with a cheery wave.

Bad point today

09 plate Corsa 1.2 that the driver had managed to fold into a lampost. I assume the driver was youngish (due to the car). How do you do that on a 30mph straight road though? Airbag deployment, hope they are OK, glad me and the missus weren't nearby. Tits.

the driving ability seems to get worse as drivers age because partly they think they are becoming more and more competent and yet they don't realize that together with their competence being build up is also they recklessness. i wonder what really should be done to make drivers more 'responsible' in thoughts and in their deed.

How about a psychological test along side the theory test, fail it and you will never get a licence.

I am all for regular retesting myself. Perhaps every a short refresher course and retest at five years for regular drivers and refresher and retest if there has been no driving for three years or more. Vehicles could then be required to have a driver registration number.
That would dechaff (dechav?) some of the wheat.
