Poo Holer Lane doesn't really sound any better in my opinion...

Puppys for sale, near Summerhouse Equestrian Centre if you want one, probably from the travellers who have taken up residence over the road from there.

Not really, I think you read too much into it, just stating the situation as I see it. The sign appeared at the same time as they did.

Or

Yes.

Your choice, you choose.

Yes but your assumption may not be correct and it is the tacit implication that travellers are ill educated or stupid.

It could easily have been someone from the Equestrian centre.

Drawing those conclusions does not make them correct, it's just lazy.

You are quite right that my assumption may be incorrect, however the conclusion was drawn after considering the available evidence, being lazy would have meant not doing that.

What I meant by the reference to lazy is that the assumption is lazy and actually bordering on racist and for what it's worth I will challenge it as your assumption is based on prejudices.

No, my assumption was based on the fact that the sign appeared at the same time as they did.

Back in my IT days I remember some of the Network lads doing some work in a site office. After they left the helpdsk took a call to say they had broken the coffee machine. They had been nowhere near it but as they were the last people to work in the building it must have been them.

However, as the thread is about bad English - how come you then attribute it to them? As you've already agreed upthread, the assumption is possibly incorrect.

Apart from temporal appearance of sign etc, what else makes you think it was them?
Besides, in a thread which I've unwittingly sidetracked, it is enough to comment on a bad form of written English but to tie it to Travellers without it really being proveable that it is them is actually playing into stereotypes which make it bigoted.

I didn't actually say I definitely attributed it to them, I said probably, which, on balance, and with the available evidence, was a fair conclusion.
What else makes me think it was from them?
An obviously hand painted sign, with only a mobile number given, which appears tied to a lamp-post more or less opposite where they broke in to the ground and some way from the equestrian centre, and the equestrian centre has its own notice board for displaying notices to passers by.

What conclusion would you draw? It's just about the evidence and the balance of probablilities, if the evidence had pointed, in my view, to the equestrian centre I would have drawn that conclusion, nothing to do with bigotry.

You're right about it being an unnecessary addition to my OP though, but not for the reason you give.

My conclusion if I posted on thread about bad English (which isn't my thing anyway), I'd not see the need to tie it in with a loosely based assumption of where it came from based on conjecture. Yes its pointing out a grammatical error and casual and unchallenged racism is crud. Did you not see the parallel in AFS's parallel post about the broken coffee machine?

I thought that had been missed
