So who can recommend a really good alternative chippy when I'm up that way next?

Seafarers just round the corner on Rayrigg Rd is much better IMO. But further away, the one in Burneside (near Staveley) is good too but you need to check when its actually open.

I like the sound of that. Strangely I've never tried them despite walking past almost every time I've been up there.

The one round the corner by the offy, on the downhill side of the one way in Windy town is pretty good.

I didn't even know that one was there. With it being close to the Magic Wok as well I could potentially be a frequent visitor to that area.

Fish and Chips shops seem to catch fire every so often. I know of 3 such in York. It's some sort of purging process.

Just been in Vinegar Jones, first time since it reopened. Quality good, prices not too bad for Bowness.

Eek! I had fish and chips in Bowness yesterday; I was entertaining some Sudanese visitors and fish 'n chips was the only food we could find that was sure to be halal. Ours was from a ropey booth run by Polish guys near the steamer piers though.
