Bad peddal technique

I broke my foot when I had a trailer draw-bar fall onto it (the rear wheels hadn't been properly chocked and the jack fell over). I was on crutches for 6 weeks and then had to use a walking stick for 6 months, BUT I could still do my commute by bike if I used my heel and not the ball of my foot to pedal with. If it works for him (for whatever reason) then fair play to him.

Whatever the answer, am I alone in finding the original post just a little judgemental? There seems to be an awful lot of criticism on this site of the way other people ride their bikes.

Yes and no. Sometimes it feels like you're right, other times it's nice to have a proper b1tch and moan about some Blunt on a bike.

Something that drives me bonkers about cyclists, when sitting in traffic,(NOT the normal twaddle) is why do so many have their saddle set far too low! This leads to a poor and inefficient peddle stroke. I wonder how many people have given up cycling as 'being too hard' and they actually just had their saddle set far too low...just wondered...

That, and pedalling with their knees way out to the side. I passed one chav once, and told him "Close your legs." Extremely funny response!

I tried pedalling with my heels last night. I only did it for about 100 yards but found it hard work. But I suppose if it works for some people, then why not? It's not for me to judge.

I do agree that a lot of cyclists seem to keep their saddle too low.

Really? Do you have an awful lot of evidence to back up this assertion?
I suppose I could trawl back through all the posts if I was so inclined. Are you suggesting that I'm wrong?

I haven't been registered here or more than a few months, yet I've gotten used to reading the same old posts on an almost daily basis criticising other people for the way they ride their bikes.

I'm not just talking about the constant bitching about cyclists riding through red lights; it's stuff like this thread, taking the piss out of people who are probably just trying to do the decent thing and cycle to work.

Then you've got the uber-zealots who are going around videoing other people and sticking the results up on the internet for others to laugh or tut-tut at. The most galling thing about reading this crap is that it often seems to come from those who haven't been riding a bicycle for more than 5 minutes.

I may be a newbie here, but I've been riding and maintaining bikes for over 40 years, so I can see this rubbish for what it's worth. Others who may be looking around for somewhere to find out about cycling to work would probably take one look at the smug way they're likely to be viewed and not bother. Way to be inclusive guys!

That seems an incredibly serious and negative way to take both this forum and the videos. It's human nature to act like this, and it's also human nature for others to stand up against that sort of thing, just as is evident in this topic.

Oh dear! :headshake: First time I've been called an uber-zealot, I think. I'll add that to the list of names I've been called.....

Mike, it's human nature to do lots of undesirable things. If the people doling out the criticism were to do so in a more constructive manner it might go down a bit better. Rather than dismiss people would cycle in an unconventional or less than optimal way as 'numptys' why not suggest that there are other, maybe more efficient methods.

I suspect, however, that the OP wasn't interested in helping others, but in improving his 'cred'. It's just sad bullying really.

You really need to learn how to post properly. Your really not very efficient. If your talking about someone in particular it's best just to name them. Saves a lot of words. You really do need to get a copy of Forumcraft. I've learned a lot from it.....

Oh by the way, I've been posting on forums for the last 40 years, so I know what I am talking about...
