Bad weather commuting?

Have sold my car (and husbands is broken at the moment so can't borrow that one) so will be cycling all year round. If it does get very icy I may walk if necessary.

all weathers again, I only had one off last winter on a patch of black ice in the dark.

Very bad ice is about the only thing that'll stop me. Though I have been known to use cross country skis to commute to work.

My car has no tax, mot or insurance and needs loads doing to fix it so it's sitting on the driev for not. So basically I haven't got a choice! Actually I could get the metro but erm...no!

Ice/snow very rarely stops me commuting as I travel along gritted A roads.

However, I have abandoned rides after coming a cropper on ice a few times over the years. Now if I see the forecast is hovering around zero and it's raining/snowing, I usually don't bother with the w/e ride as it's not worth the extra risk.

I leave the bike at home a lot in December but that's not because of the weather - it's the drinking season

for me ice- don't mind the snow as much - one thing that does get me thinking is gail force winds.

Still being sick is what will hinder my cycling commute so that's when I will be forced onto public transport.

Well I cycled through the snow and ice last year - and discovered that it was safer to stick to main roads rather than using a cut through a park (one with a big dip in the middle!!!). I think I got off and walked a 100 m occasionally when I thought it was bad.

I avoid ice and strong winds. There's no point taking unnecessary risks. I'm lucky that I have the option of car or bus though.

Commutes like this evening (3 Degrees C and a clear sky) are the best kind of commutes weather wise imo.

I have no car and very irregular public transport; no choice. One one occasion last year my gloves got wet and I was actually sobbing with pain by the time I got home, my hands were that cold. And that was nothing compared to what they felt like when they started to warm up... OOOWWWWWWWWWWWWW!!!!!! On one occasion half the office were off work because of the snow, I breezed in on time wondering what the fuss was about. Bril; I'd hate to not be able to do a cycle commute

Bikepete is getting my trike ready for my winter commute. Nothing will be stopping me after that.

Being my 1st year I think I've done well in keeping missed days down to a minimum,only when it's pouring down on my way in have I chickened out,don't mind getting wet on way home so much,but on way in not keen,no real facilities where I work showers etc.
Have missed maybe 5 days in total due to weather.

I didn't mind the snow earlier this year, in fact I quite enjoyed it, the ice the day after just looked too much though.
When I woke up this morning the sound of wind and rain was not too tempting but once I was on my way I was glad that I was on my bike as the traffic was at a standstill for most of my six miles.
