This one is on my commute, or at least it was until the council covered it up with a thin skim of tarmac to hide their shame. I've pinched the picture from Warrington Cycle Campaign's excellent Cycle Facility of the Month site, where they have this to say about it:

I love how the painted bicycle doesn't even fit!!

This one on NCR1 in Linwood near Market Rasen is a classic.
The cycle path comes in from the left, and actually ends on the corner.
But the farmer whose yard is on the left, decided that he did not want cyclists going across the front of his yard access and asked for it to be re-routed (on safety grounds according to the locals). The local council came up with this farcical solution.
As you can see, the bike path continues on the right hand side of the road (the very short curved path) for all of 5m or so and then ends.
So you approach the end of the cycle lane of the left, are expected to dismount, then cross the road, then re-mount, ride 5m, then dismount again as you have to now cycle on the road. The cost of this fantastic bit of road planning was (again according to the locals) £27k. Our tax money well spent then.

Pointless cycle lane

I am no road planner, but wouldn't it just been simpler to prematurely end the cyclepath where it enters the road fom the left. It's not as though you are going to be losing a lot of cyclepath!

That is bizarre; I can sort of see the convoluted sense coming the other direction; the cyclist on the road who needs to turn right into the cycle path would be doing so on a bad bend and it may be safer for them to enter the short loop on the left which directs them round perpendicular to the bend enabling better visibility for them to cross the road into the cycle path rather than sitting exposed in the middle of the road. It is however convoluted and somehow that road doesn't look that busy

What are you complaining about, at least it is of standard width
I don't understand the complaint either, I mean it's obviously a slip-lane::tongue:

You come out of Sainsbury's cross the road (walking of course) heading for Bristol Road South, and the slip lane is there to allow you to come up to traffic speed as you join the main carriageway. Logical really!

Actually you can cycle across the toucan, so I guess it makes sense. The route is part of the Northfield Bypass and feeds back onto the "bypassed" bit of road.

Personally I would prefer the length of pavement cycleway along the route to be on road cycle lane of the same width, you can then integrate with traffic when passing the junctions instead of giving way and waiting a minute or so at the crossing lights at each junction. Plenty of room to fit such a lane in and i would argue it would be safer at the junctions

Is it just me or does that link you have provided to google maps of Ulwine Drive show that the camera car runs a red light on a ped crossing?
If you turn the view round then go back a couple of frames, you can see the car approaches on amber, then advance the images - the blue Toyota on the nearside stops as the peds cross but the camera car sails on.
Sorry to change the subject dand.

I've got this one near me. It's actually brilliant because it allows a completely legal RLJ.

Best cycle lane ever - one on the left! The one on the right is completely pointless though.

Says it's northfield birmingham, because I went to London from the last link in this thread.

It's traffic free - what are you complaining about   (what sort of tyres were you on when you met that!) ... is there a road the other side of that wall? and on the other side ... looks like a bit of a drop!
