.... bird today. Looked like he'd been freshly killed by a moton. There was little visible damage to him except a broken neck. Poor pheasant. His plumage was grand indicating he was in his prime. Quite a big and heavy specimen. He must have done some damage to the vehicle that hit him. Just hope he got a chance to pass on his genes before he met his maker. I hid him discreetly in the hedge by the side of the road and picked up him up on my return having acquired some carrier bags, slipping him neatly into my pannier.
Anyway plucked and prepared him ready for roasting (only took 2 hours) only to find the oven wasn't making anywhere near temperature
. So he's now in the fridge marinating in herbs and olive oil until I decide how else to cook and enjoy him.
