I bought Joshua aged 3 a balance bike at the weekend (he keeps falling off his stabilized 12inch pedal cycle) I can't get him off it

The little guy did 5 miles along the Derwent Walk and refused to go home. He was balancing it
with out any problems minutes into the ride and when he did lose his balance he just abandoned it

with out drama.

Brilliant!

I can't post pics up file to big?

Been looking at these for my little girl, she'll be 21 months come Xmas and I think she'd love it. What make have you bought?

Excellent! Sounds like he's taken to it like a duck to water. It won't be long before you can put him back on the other bike, but minus the stablisers.

With regard to pics, resize them - either in Microsoft Paint (right click on the pic file, select 'open with: Paint' and there's a 'resize' tool - choose to reduce in size, or in pixels), or via an online photo storage system like Flickr.

I stripped a friend's child's bike down to remove the cranks and chain etc so that it became a balance bike

was only a few months before I had to put the cranks back on!

The first time i saw balance bikes, namely the like-a-bike one, I thought what a stupendous waste of money. How long will it be before they want a proper bike with pedals?

You seem to have come up with a cost effective version of the same thing.

the advantage of the balance bike over a stripped down bike is the bottom bracket shell ideally needs blocking off and preferably a bit of padding around it to stop ankles being caught on it - although Fin seemed to manage ok

Yes, I think Black Sheep means remove the BB, but the shell itself on the frame will have a sharpish edge, so needs a bit of padding out. Also advisable to block any 'cookie cutter' parts like that (why we have bar end plugs, to stop them taking cores out of folk if they tip over)
