Now this is something you don't see very often at 5.30am on a sunday morning looking out of an Orpington bedroom window.

At our old house I used to love hearing the sounds of the burners over our house, and occasionally the would land on nearby open land. Don't get to see them as much now.

Every time the balloon fiesta was on, you'd study the wind trying to work out if the were coming your direction.

It was the burners that alerted me to them. Thought... what the bleedin' hell is that noise?

One of my favourites of the past was the electricity pylon which when it was descending would splay out its legs!

I'm in the lucky position of having really good friends who are balloon pilots so I've been able to fly in them fairly frequently  Love the feeling of drifting along just above the trees looking at buzzards on their nests. It's an amazing way to spend an early morning or late evening. Highly recommended. Wendy

They have a balloon festival in Bristol don't they ?

Used to see them a lot around Tunbridge Wells and Cranbrook. Now i see quite a few microlights, saw 4 today on my ride.
Yes, usually about the second weekend in August.... So it's often wet and windy. Then there's a kite festival in September when the reverse occurs and it's not windy enough. (Or that's how it often seems to me).

Heated clothing is great in winter but sometimes in summer it's warm enough for shorts and t shirts......even in Scotland lol
